God Cares

He Cares For You…

Outside our kitchen window is a bird house. It looks like a church. Steeple and all. Each spring, before the snow has gone, sparrows take up residence. They busily flit about, straw in beaks, happily making a home. All is well – that is, until the snow goes and tree swallows suddenly arrive from some southern clime. Lots of them. One pair immediately park themselves on the little church. Poor sparrows. It’s their house. They’ve been there for three weeks. And isn’t possession nine tenths of the law?

But swallows are lawless. And heartless. They squawk, fight and argue for two or three days, and every year the outcome is the same. Sparrows leave. Swallows take up habitation.

I don’t know where the sparrows go.

But God knows.

And God cares.

Jesus saw sparrows being sold at market and said, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows,” Mark 12:6-7.

Five sparrows? Two pennies?

At that price it’s quite obvious swallows are not the only one of God’s creation that put little value on sparrows!

Do you ever feel like a sparrow?
Cheap. Booted. Abused. Hammered. Outcast. Nobody seems to care.

And where is God anyway? Asleep? David thought so in Psalm 44:23.

The disciples of Jesus were being pounded by waves and wind in a bit of a boat one day. And Jesus was in the back – asleep! How could He be asleep when they were in such trouble?

They shouted, “Master! Don’t you care? We are perishing!”

“Jesus arose”, Mark 4:39. (I like those words). “He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ’Peace! Be still!’” And the wind stopped and there was a great calm.

God tells us to “Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me,” Psalm 50:5

“This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles,” Psalm 34:6.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” Psalm 46:1.

Not one sparrow is forgotten by God. And you and I are of more value than many sparrows.

“He cares for you.” 1Peter 5:7.
